Minimum Wage Top-Ups (SD13)
2 min read — Updated March 2026
How Top-Ups Work
Sectoral Determination 13 requires that farm workers earn at least the minimum daily wage, even when paid on a piece-rate basis. If a worker's daily piece-rate earnings are less than the minimum, the employer must pay the difference.
SA Wages Pro calculates this automatically. When you log piece-rate output, the system compares earnings to the applicable minimum and flags any shortfall.
On the Payslip
Top-ups appear as a separate line item on the payslip labelled "Minimum Wage Top-Up (SD13)". This provides a clear audit trail for compliance.
