Rain-Day and Work-Stoppage Rules
2 min read — Updated March 2026
The BCEA 4-Hour Rule
Under the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, if an employee reports for work and is sent home due to rain, equipment failure, or other work stoppage within the first 4 hours, they are entitled to at least 4 hours of pay.
SA Wages Pro applies this rule automatically when you log a work stoppage for a farm or seasonal worker.
How to Log a Work Stoppage
Open an employee profile and go to the Work Stoppages tab. Record the date, reason (rain, equipment, other), and hours worked before stoppage. The system calculates the correct pay.
Compliance Log
Every work stoppage is stored as a compliance record. This provides evidence of correct payment if queried by the Department of Labour or at CCMA.
