What Is a Certificate of Service?
A Certificate of Service is a document confirming that an employee worked for you. It includes the employee's name, job title, dates of employment, and reason for leaving. Under Section 42 of the BCEA, employers must provide this on request.
When to Issue It
You must issue a Certificate of Service when:
- The employee resigns
- The employee is dismissed
- The employment contract ends (fixed-term)
- The employee is retrenched
- The employee requests one at any time during or after employment
Generating in SA Wages Pro
SA Wages Pro auto-generates the Certificate of Service from the employee's record. Go to the employee's profile → Documents → Certificate of Service. All details are pre-filled from the employment record. Download the PDF and provide it to the employee.
