Types of Termination
SA Wages Pro supports 9 termination types:
- Resignation — employee leaves voluntarily
- Dismissal (misconduct) — for disciplinary reasons
- Dismissal (incapacity) — poor performance or health
- Retrenchment — operational requirements
- End of fixed-term contract — contract period expires
- Mutual agreement — both parties agree to end employment
- Retirement
- Death
- Absconding — employee disappears without notice
Notice Periods (BCEA)
Unless the contract specifies a longer period:
- Employed less than 6 months: 1 week notice
- Employed 6 months to 1 year: 2 weeks notice
- Employed more than 1 year: 4 weeks notice
- Farm workers employed more than 1 year: 4 weeks notice
- Domestic workers employed more than 6 months: 4 weeks notice
Final Pay Calculation
When an employee leaves, you must pay:
- Outstanding salary for days worked
- Accrued but unused annual leave
- Notice period pay (if notice was not worked)
- Pro-rata bonus (if applicable)
- Any other amounts owed
The Termination Wizard calculates all of this automatically and generates the final payslip.
Using the Termination Wizard
Go to the employee's profile → Terminate Employment. The wizard walks you through selecting the reason, calculating final pay, generating the termination letter, and issuing the Certificate of Service. All documents are saved to the employee's record.
